When shopping for an eternity ring of any kind, one of the most important things you need to decide upon is what type of setting you want your ring to have. There are a few settings that most diamond eternity rings come in. Most of these settings apply to women’s eternity rings because the only known setting that most men’s eternity rings come in is the channel setting. It is good for a man to get familiar with the different settings especially if he is planning to go out and purchase an eternity ring as an anniversary gift for his spouse.

Whether you are a man or a woman shopping for an eternity ring it is a good idea to know and understand the different diamond setting choices that are outlined below. Here they are:

Channel Setting

The channel setting is the most common setting for most eternity rings including those for women and men and they are the most popular choice for buyers. The diamonds are set set flush within the metal right next to each other between both sides of the ring. This setting offers protection from the diamonds accidentally being snagged but the ability for light to shine through is slightly diminished.

Shared Prong Setting

This setting comes in a a two, four, or six prongs. The diamonds are sitting securely in the prong raised in the air to allow the most light as possible to strike the diamond. The more light the diamond receives the more sparkle and fire the ring will give off. This setting is sometimes called the Claw Setting. Setting the diamonds with the four or six prong setting is the most recommended way to set a diamond.

Bar Setting

This setting is similar to the Shared Prong setting but instead of a claw like prong holding the diamonds, the prongs are box or rectangular shaped. This setting is great if you want to your ring to show off more metal and the diamonds all at the same time.

Box Setting

The box setting is another popular choice among buyers. The diamonds are next to each other touching, surrounded by two bars of metal on each side. This setting protects the diamonds from snags but it minimizes the amount of light that shines through the diamonds to create the maximum sparkle and fire that the diamond could give off.

Bezel Setting

The Bezel setting offers the beauty of an elevated diamond, but wit full protection to the diamond than any of the other elevated settings. This is because the diamonds are completely surrounded by a circle or bezel of metal. Since the ring is so well protected, it is a great ring for active adults who do not like to constantly remove their rings off. This setting also prevents dirt and oil to reach the underside of the diamond which things will diminish the full sparkle potential that the diamonds can give off.

There are other settings that have recently been introduced to the market among diamond eternity rings, but they generally branch out of the five settings we have just talked about.
