Gold has been the standard among metals not just in the past, but also today and without a doubt it will be the standard among metals in the future. From rich and powerful people to today’s average middle class person, Gold has been worn as jewelry for many different reasons and in many different styles. Usually when one thinks of gold, they think of the most common color of gold which is yellow. This of course, is the natural color that gold comes as, but throughout time, men have learned to extract the different color alloys that make up the yellow color gold naturally gives off. There several color alloys from pink to blue, but one of the most popular alloys used among gold jewelry today is white gold.
If you are looking to invest in any type of white gold jewelry, in this case a white gold ring, then consider the pros and cons that come with this popular precious metal.
The Pros:
White gold rings provide a beautiful look to any finger whether it’s a man or a woman. The white shiny color is eye catching for sure and makes the ring look more expensive than what it really is. That brings us to the other point about white gold and that is they are not as expensive as precious metals such as platinum or palladium. White gold rings come in many different styles and designs and are used for just about every type of occasion.
The Cons:
Since white gold is not truly white, but an alloy that is grayish in nature, your white gold ring will not keep that beautiful white shiny look forever. In order to give white gold it’s white color a mixture of white metals such as nickel, silver, platinum and palladium are used. White gold is then plated with Rhodium to finish off the white look. Because it is not naturally white, the white starts wearing off revealing a yellowish gold tint. White gold rings have to be taken in once a year to have the plating replaced.
Despite the fact that white gold is not naturally white in color it is still a great looking metal to use for any type of ring. If you are planning a wedding on a budget or an anniversary is coming up, a white gold ring may be just what you are looking for to make that moment or any other special moment, a golden moment.
