Should You Invest In a White Gold Ring?

No matter how the trends among men’s and women’s rings go, one thing is for certain that gold will always be the foundation or the standard when it comes to jewelry. Not only is it the most well known metal for jewelery making of all kinds, but it is also the oldest used precious metal used for many other purposes as well.
Gold rings can come in several different colors. Most people are more familiar with the typical yellow or gold color. The other colors include white, rose, red, pink, green, grey, black, purple, and blue colors. These colors are also known as alloy colors and can be obtained by alloying gold with other elements with different proportions. Nevertheless pure gold is naturally yellow in color.
The two most popular gold colors used for gold ring making today is white gold and rose gold or also known as red gold or pink gold. Since white or silver looking jewelry is the preferred color used among jewelry wearers today, white gold rings are very popular especially among couples who are looking to buy wedding rings for their big day. Although white gold gives off a beautiful shine at the beginning, after a while of normal wear and tear the white shine starts to diminish and the ring starts looking more yellow than white. This is because in order for white gold to obtain it’s white color it is plated with rhodium or bleached with palladium and nickel.
Therefore to keep your white gold ring giving off the same type of shine that it gave off when you first bought it, you would have to take it to a professional jeweler so that they can put the ring through the same rhodium plating process that it went through when the ring was being made. This is a slight downfall of wearing or investing in a white gold ring of any kind, but it is a great alternative if your budget doesn’t allow a ring made of platinum or palladium which are the two top options when it comes to white jewelry. However white gold is more durable than silver, which is another more affordable option to choose from among white colored jewelry of any kind.
Despite some of the downsides of having a white gold ring, it is still a great option if you want not just a great looking ring on your finger, but a ring made of a highly prestigious metal.
