The Truth About a Mens Tungsten Ring

There is no doubt that the popularity and the increase in sales of tungsten rings have grown in recent years especially for mens tungsten rings. Many men love that fact that they can wear a wedding band or fashion ring made of tungsten that is fairly inexpensive, yet more durable than gold or platinum, and almost a maintenance free ring. How is that for an investment.
Along with the increase in popularity and sales, the increase of myths and unecessary worries has also grown concerning tungsten rings. Although you should look at every aspect possible and information possible about a ring purchase or any other type of product you buy, you should always be sure of what is true and what is false in regards to a ring or any kind of product that is meant to be an investment.
One of the myths about tungsten rings is that they are indestructible and scratch proof. The truth is that a tungsten ring or any substance for that matter is perishable. If it had a beginning it will have an end. Some things take a longer time to come to complete destruction and this is the case with tungsten rings. Tungsten is one of the hardest metals for ring making right now. It scores about a 9 on the Mohs scale for hardness. That is right next to the score of a diamond, the hardest substance known to man which has a score of 10 on the same scale.
It is a very well known fact that Tungsten rings have the ability to crack if struck at high impact. Because of this, the claim that tungsten rings are indestructible is for the most part false. As far as completely scratch resistant, you have to remember that one thing scratches which ever one is the hardest. In this case a tungsten ring’s hardness is a 9 and a diamond’s hardness is a 10. Therefore, a tungsten ring can get scratched if you were rubbing a diamond right on it.
Since more than likely nobody is going to take their tungsten ring and rub it up to a diamond, then you shouldn’t have problems with it for many years. That is what makes a men’s tungsten ring such a great value compared to rings made out of other metals, especially if it is to be used as a wedding band which is a long term wear.
